Wyeast 1217-PC West Coast IPA Liquid Yeast 125 mL

This yeast strain is part of Wyeast Labs’ Private Collection which are released as limited/seasonal availablity. This strain was last made available January – March 2025.

This strain is ideally suited to the production of West Coast-style American craft beers, especially pale, IPA, red, and specialties. Thorough attenuation, temperature tolerance, and good flocculation make this an easy strain to work with. Flavor is balanced neutral with mild ester formation at warmer temperatures, allowing hops, character malts, and flavorings to show through.

Comes in the Wyeast Activator™ (smack pack pouch) that “proofs” the yeast and shortens lag time when it hits your wort. Activator™packages include an internal packet which, when smacked, releases its contents into the yeast slurry and revitalizes the cells. The available sugars and nutrients initiate the culture’s metabolism which in turn generates CO₂ and causes swelling of the package, serving as a viability and vitality test as well. Although beneficial, cultures do not need to be activated prior to inoculation.
